On The Road (Finally) - Farewell Scarbourough

Contrary to popular belief we have not spontaneously combusted and are alive and well; we apologise for the delay in getting the site moving again and thanks to those who have contacted us on when we will be back on air.

Closing off some work issues and Dad’s continuing illness has kept us stationary for several months at Scarborough but we have now decided to move on for a few months travel. We have stopped at Hervey Bay to catch up with our 3 granddaughters before we head off to Boulia (400km south of Mt Isa) for the mid July camel races. We will be stopping at several places on the way such as Cania Gorge, Rubyvale/Sapphire, Longreach, Winton and finally on to Boulia. From there we intend to catch up with friends at Mount Isa and then Julia Creek; all going well we will have a slow trip back to be in Brisbane by Christmas.

If you are ever staying in the Brisbane area or just passing through make sure you visit the Scarborough Holiday Village park; prices are very good and the park and amenities are first class. Other than the perimeter sites they are all drive through (marriage savers) so nice and easy access. The park also has several self contained cabins which accommodate up to 6 people.

Above is the recently opened park cafe (Cafe Deckchair) which is open Wednesday through Sunday, the cafe opens at 7.30am and does light breakfasts & lunches etc.

During our stay channel nine morning show did their weather crosses at the park; this was presented by Steve Jacobs (above) and sponsored by muffin break. Our van was used for some of the show; you will note in the background the bloody big muffin trying to get in (or out) of our van. It was a great morning with the caravan park owners & managers providing free coffee and a fantastic sausage sizzle at no charge.

The motley crew above were our (and will be your) hosts at the park; they are from L to R Peter, Pauline, Digger, Sarah, the little fella at front is Sarah and Digger’s son, Chase. Pauline & Sarah do most of the admin and general running of the park, Digger does most of the ground and park maintenance and Peter does….. Did I mention that Digger does the ground & park maintenance?

This was our last night at the park and we would like to thank Peter & Pauline for opening the cafe after hours as a function room to allow us all to meet for a farewell bash; with us being packed up and the weather not so good it helped us all enjoy a few drinks and nibbles. To all the new friends we made see you again soon; I know some of you will be back at Christmas.

The Scarborough Holiday Village which is located on Reef Point Esplanade can be contacted on (07) 3203 8864; Email: peter@scarboroughholidayvillage.com.au. They also have a web site so you can check out the park on line, the site address is www.scarboroughholidayvillage.com.au.

Above is our outlook from the Hervey Bay (Pialba) park we are currently at; Lin spotted the camels on a trek along the beach.

Will post again soon (now we are on the move).
